Alberto Arons Braga de Carvalho

Alberto Arons Braga de Carvalho is an Associate Professor at the Communications Sciences Department of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the University Nova of Lisbon.

He holds a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences from the University Nova of Lisbon (2009).

Professor Arons de Carvalho was the running candidate for the Portuguese Democratic Opposition during the 1973 legislative elections.. He was also the founder of the Socialist Party and of the Youth Section of the Socialist Party, JS. Later Professor Arons de Carvalho became a Deputy at the Constituent Assembly and at the Assembly of the Republic, a position he held from 1975 to 1983, 1987 to 1995 and from 2002 to 2009 .

From October 2008 to September 2009, Professor Arons de Carvalho held the position of President of the Parliamentary Commission for Work, Social Security and Public Administration.

Professor Arons de Carvalho was a member of the Commission responsible for the elaboration of the 1975 Press Law, and he was also a member of the 1985 Commission accountable for the preliminary draft of the Deontological Code for the Journalistic Profession, a Commission which was then designated by the National Union of Journalists.

In 1975 Professor Arons de Carvalho became a member of the Press Council, a position he would held again from 1985 to 1988. Between 1977 and 1980 was a member of the Press Information Council and between 1980 and 1984 he became member of the RDP Information Council.

From 1995 to 2002, Professor Arons de Carvalho held the position of Secretary of State of Social Communication.

As of 2011, Professor Arons de Carvalho has written seven books, three of them as a co-author, whose main subjects are Law and Social Communication politics.

Since October 2009 Professor Arons de Carvalho is a member of the Scientific Council of the Revue Européenne des Médias part of the Institut de Recherche et d’Études sur la Communication (IREC).

On November 9th 2011 Alberto Arons Braga de Carvalho was appointed Vice-President of the Regulatory Board
