Carlos Magno Castanheira

Carlos Magno Castanheira holds a degree in Journalism from the Superior School of Journalism of Oporto. He also attended the Faculty of Letters of the University of Oporto where he read Germanic Philology and Modern Languages and Literatures.

As specialist in the field of Philosophy of Communication, Carlos Magno currently teaches at the Superior Institute of Business Communication in Lisbon, and also at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Catholic University of Braga.

At the Superior School of Journalism of Oporto, he lectured the courses of Journalism and Literature, Contemporary Journalism and Radio Journalism. At ISAG (Oporto), he lectured Communication Theories and at the Miguel Torga Superior Institute he lectured Portuguese Culture.

After running Communication and Image courses at the MBA of the Institute of Financial and Fiscal Superior Studies, he later became Course Director of the Programme of Advanced Studies in Management.

Carlos Magno started his broadcasting career at Radio Universidade before joining RDP, the national public radio, where he specialized as a political journalist.

Later he became Director of Antena 1, and also by that time he became Executive-Editor of the newspaper Expresso, in Oporto, a position he held for 10 years.

Based in Oporto, Carlos Magno founded TSF radio where he held the positions of Chairman and Programme Director, while also producing and presenting several programmes of political analysis and commentary.

He was a member of the editorial board of the daily newspaper Dirio de Noticias and founder of the cable TV channel which later became RTPi.

Over recent years, Carlos Magno has been a political commentator at RTP, a presenter of two weekly radio shows at TSF radio station and author of The Power Seen from Oporto.

On November 9th 2011, Carlos Magno was appointed Chairman of the Regulatory Board of ERC.
